The Greedy Dog

Once, a dog with a large piece of bone held tightly in his jaws was on his way to a safe place where he could eat and enjoy it uninterrupted.

 He had to cross a footbridge over a clear stream. From the footbridge, he looked down and saw his own reflection.
Thinking that it was another dog having just a big a piece of bone in his mouth, the greedy dog jumped into the stream to have that bone also.

 The greedy dog didn't realize that water crated reflection, and he had seen his own image.

 But by then it was too late. He began gasping for air and opened his mouth in the process.

 As a result, he was deprived of what he already had in his possession.he somehow managed to come out of the stream and save his life.

 it is rightly said-'A bird in hand is worth two in the bush,'

Teamwork


One morning, Rocky, the rabbit, and his sister, Rache, went out for a walk.

 "Where should we go today?" asked Rocky.

 "Shall we explore the other side of the lake?" Rache suggested.

 Rocky nodded. the two of them started walking towards the lake.

 At the lake, they threw stones into the water and watched the ripples.

 Suddenly, a net fell over them. they were trapped!

 "Today is turning out to be a great day!" said the hunter to his partner. "We caught a monkey, tow turtles, and now tow rabbits."

 "Yes! We just need to catch a deer and then we can go back to the city," said the other hunter. "Let's put these two in the pickup truck and then look for a deer?"


 The two hunters dumped rocky and Rache in the back of the truck. The monkey and the turtles were also there.

 "Won't these animals try to escape from the truck?" asked the first hunter.

 "How will they? the monkey is chained to the truck, and the two rabbits are trapped in the net.

 As for the turtles, hey can't walk fast enough to lave. It is too dangerous for them to jump from the truck," said his partner, laughing.

 The hunters took another net and left in search of a deer. The animals waited until they had left, then went into a huddle.



 "What will happen to us now, Rocky? Where will they take us?" Rache asked nervously.

 Before Rocky could reply, Martin, the monkey said, "The humans are taking us to the city."

 "City? I don't want to go to the city. I'm happy here in the forest," said Rache.

 "They are not asking us for our opinion. They're taking us there by force," said Martin sadly.

 "We have to try and escape," said Rocky.

 Just then, the hunters returned with a deer they had caught.

 They loaded the deer in the back of the truck along with the rest of the animals and then got into the front seat.

 All the animals were scared and looked for ways to escape.

 Rache's eyes fell on a beehive. It was on a tree next to the truck.

 "We need to take down that beehive," said Rache.

 "Martin, you can climb trees. Please help us," requested Rocky.

 "Take down that beehive?! No way! the bees will sting me," said Martin.

 the other animals tried to convince Martin, but he refused.

 So, Rocky and Rache decided to do it.

 "Rocky, if I climb on your shoulders, I will be able to reach the beehive," said Rache.

 "You are right. but the quick! this may be our only chance to escape," said Rocky.

 Rocky lifted Rache on his shoulders. She managed to pull the beehive away from the branch with her bear paws.

 Rocky and Rache were stung by many bees but they did not give up.

 The bees were angry that their beehive had been broken. So they swarmed the truck.

 Rache said, "Now, all of you start making a lot of noise so that the humans open this window at the back to see what is happening."

 The others did as told. When the hunters opened the window, Rocky threw the beehive through it. The beehive broke and more angry bees attacked them.

 The hunters jumped out of the truck and ran to save themselves from the bees.



 "Hurry! The humans have run away. We don't have to go to the city!" cheered Tony, and Todd, the turtles.

 "But we still have one problem," said Dylan, the deer, gesturing to the nets.

 "Hold on. We'll try cutting the nets with our teeth," said Tony Todd, and began biting through the net.

 Martin too joined them in biting through the nets. Martin suffered cuts to his lips, but that did not stop him. In the end, the tear work paid off. Rocky, Rache, and Dylan were free.

 "What about me? I'm still chained," said Martin.

 "Don't worry. I'll use a stone to break this chain," said Dylan and left the pickup truck.

 After a while, she came back with a stone and used it to break the chain.

 Rocky, Rache, Martin, and Dylan got off the truck and helped the turtles get off.

 Martin, Dylan and the turtles thanked Rocky and Rache. "Thank you. It's because of you quick thinking that we were able to escape from the hunters," they said.

 "It was a team effort. If you had not cut through the net, then we would have been trapped in the truck itself," said Rocky and Rache.

 the animals then bid each other goodbye and returned to their homes happily.

Fate is stronger than other


Once upon a time, there lived a baron who was a great magician, and could tell by his arts and charms everything that was going to happen at any time.

 Now this great lord had a little son baron to him as heir to all his castles and lands. 

 So, when the little boy was about four years old, wishing to know what his fortune would be, the baron looked in his Book of Fate to see what it foretold.

And, lo and behold! It was written that this much loved,, much-prized heir to all the great lands and castles was to marry a low-born maiden.


So the baron was dismayed and set to work by more arts and charms to discover if this maiden were already born,  and if so, where she lived.

 And he found out that she had just been born in a very poor house, where the poor parents already had five children.

 So he called for his horse and rode for far away until he came to the poor man's house. and there he found the poor man sitting at his doorstep very sand and distressful.

 "What is the matter, my friend?" he asked, and the poor man replied:

 "May it please your honor, a little girl has just been born to our house, and we have five children already, and where the bread is to come from to fill the sixth mouth, we don't know."

 "If that be all your trouble," said the baron readily,

 "Maybe I can help you. So don't be downhearted. I'm just looking for such a little girl to be a companion to my son, so, if you will, I 'll give you ten crowns for her."

Well! The man he night jumped for joy since he was to get good money and his daughter, so he thought, a good home. 
Therefore he brought out the child then and there, and the baron, wrapping the baby in his cloak, rode away. But when he got to the river he flung the little baby into the swollen stream and said to himself as he galloped back to his castle: swollen stream. and said to himself  as he galloped back to his castle:

"There goes Fate!"
But, you see, he was just sore mistaken. For the little girl didn't sink.

 The stream was very swift, and her long clothes kept her up till she caught in a snag just opposite a fisherman who was mending his nets,

 Now the fisherman and his wife had no children, and they were just longing for a baby, so when the good man saw the little girl he was overcome with joy and took her home to his wife, who received her with happiness.

 And there she grew up, the apple of their eyes, into the most beautiful maiden that ever was seen.

 Now, when she was about fifteen years of age, it so happened that the baron and his friends went for a hunting along the banks of the river and stopped to get a drink of water at the fisherman's hut.

 And who should bring the water out but, as they thought, the fisherman's daughter?

 The young men of the party noticed her beauty, and one of them said to the baron, "She should marry well, read us her fate since you are so learned in the art."

 Then the baron, scarce looking at her, said carelessly:

 "I could guess her fate! Some wretched yokel or other.


But, to please you, I'll cast her horoscope by the stars, so tell me, girl, what day you were born?"

 "That I cannot tell, sir," replied the girl, "for I was picked up in the river about fifteen years ago."

 Then the baron grew pale, for he guessed at once that she was the little girl he had flung into the stream. and that Fate had been stronger than he was.

 But he kept his own advice and said nothing at the time. Afterward, however, he thought out a plan, so he rode back and gave the girl a letter.

 "See you!" he said. "I will make your fortune. Take this letter to my brother, who needs a good girl, and you will be settled for life,"

 Now the fisherman and his wife were growing old and needed help, so the girl said she would go, and took the letter.

 And the baron rode back to his castle saying to himself once more.:

 "There goes Fate!"

 For what he had written in the letter was this:

 Dear Brother, take the bearer and put her to death immediately.

But Once again he was sorely mistaken since on the way to the town where his brother lived, the girl had to stay in the night at a little inn.

 And it so happened that that very night a gang of thieves broke into the inn, and not content with carrying off all that he innkeeper possessed, they searched the pockets of the guest and found the letter which the girl carried.
And when they read it, they agreed that it was a mean trick and a shame.

 So their captain sat down and, taking pen and paper, wrote instead:

 Dear Brother, take the bearer and marry her to my son without delay.

 Then, after putting the note into an envelope and scaling it up, they gave it to the girl and bade her go on her way.

 So when she arrived at the brother's castle, though rather surprised, he gave orders for a wedding feast to be prepared. And the baron's son, who was staying with his uncle, seeing the girl's great beauty, was not unwilling, so they were fast wedded.

 Well! When the news was brought to the baron, he was beside himself, but he was determined not to be outdone by Fate.

 So he rode quickly to his brother's and pretended to be quite pleased. And then one day, when no one was near, he asked the young bride to come for a walk with him, and when they were close to some cliffs, seized hold of her and was for throwing her over into the sea. But she begged hard for her life.

 "It is not my fault," she said, "I've done nothing. It is Fate. But if you will spare my life I promise that I will fight against Fate also, I will never see you or your son again until you desire it. That will be safer for you, since, see you, the sea may preserve me, as the river did."

 Well! The Baron agreed to this. So he took off his gold ring from his finger and flung it over the cliffs into the sea and said:

 "Never dare to show me your face again till you can show me that ring likewise."

 And with that he let her go

 Well! The girl wandered on, and she wandered on until she came to a nobleman's castle, and there, as they needed a kitchen girl, she took work.

 Now one day, as she was cleaning a big fish, she looked out of the kitchen window, and who should she see driving up to dinner but the baron and his young son, her husband.

 At first, she thought that to keep her promise, she must run away, but afterward, she remembered they would not see her in the kitchen so she went on with her cleaning of the big fish.

And, lo and behold! She saw something shine in its inside, and there, sure enough, was the baron's ring!

 She was glad enough to see it, I can tell you, so she slipped it on to her thumb. But she went to with her work and dressed the fish as nicely as ever she could, and served it up as pretty as may be, with parsley sauce and butter.

Well! When it came to table the guests liked it so well that they asked the host who cooked it. And he called to his servants,

 "Send up the cook who cooked that fine fish, that she may get her reward."

 Well! when the girl heard she was wanted she made herself ready, and with the gold ring on her thumb, went boldly into the dining hall. And all the guests when they saw her were struck dumb by her wonderful beauty. 

And they young husband started up gladly, but the baron, recognizing her, jumped up angrily and looked as if he would kill her.

 So, without one word, the girl held up her hand before his face,e and the gold ring shone and glittered on it, and she went straight up to the baron and laid her hand with the ring on it before him on the table.
Then the baron understood  that Fate had been too strong from him, so he took her by the hand, and, placing her beside him, turned to the guests and said:

 "This is my son's wife. Let us drink a toast in her honor."

 And after dinner, he took her and his son home to his castle, where they all lived as happy as could be forever afterward.

Paradise Dream--Creative mind



Lucy was a pretty little girl, with a cute dimple on her cheek. She excelled in both, her studies and extra-curricular activities.
Always smiling, her positive attitude was praised by all. She was a little naughty, as are most children of her age. Yet, Lucy had great respect for nature and all its creatures.

One day in school, during the morning assembly, the headmaster spoke about the importance of dreaming 'big' while preparing for a dream career.

"know your skills and capabilities. Explore what interests you. Follow your dreams. Don't compare yourself with others," said the Headmaster.

"A high percentage alone does not make you an achiever. You must be able to apply your knowledge, thoughts, and dreams to everyday life. Only then can learning can be fruitful," said the Headmaster.

He concluded, "Make your dreams come true. It'll bring joy not only to your life but to people around you too!"

Lucy raised her had, "Sit, I have many dreams. Can I make all of them come true?"

"Tell us one of your dreams, Lucy," said the Headmaster.

Lucy thought for a minute. "I often see myself as an angel living in paradise?" she exclaimed.

"Does anyone else have a similar dream?" asked the Headmaster.

Few hands raised.

The Headmaster smiled, "How many of you think that you can fulfill this dream in a few months?"

There was pin-drop silence. the children looked confused. Some stared at Lucy as if holding her responsible for the awkward question.

She was silent for a moment. She then said bravely, "Sir, I will try to make this dream true."

"Clap, for this little girl," said the Headmaster. "We will all wait to see her effort."

After the assembly, the children rushed to their classrooms. Some of them made fun of the situation Lucy got herself into.

Now, while Lucy accepted the challenge, she was not sure how to go about fulfilling it. She returned home with many questions on her mind.

As usual, she had a glass of milk with an evening snack. But, instead of going out to play, she sat beside her mother.

Mother gave her a kiss on her cheek. "What happened, my little angel?" asked mother.

Lucy told her mother all that happened at the assembly. "You're brave to accept the challenge," said mother.

"But, mom, how do I make my dream come true?" asked Lucy.

"Close your eyes, and imagine that you are an angel," said Mother. Lucy closed her eyes and recollected the scene of her favorite dream.

"Now, draw or write all that you see, in this paper," said mother.

Mother handed Lucy a pencil and a chart paper.

Within minutes, Lucy drew a beautiful picture. She showed it to mother.

"Wow! This is wonderful!" exclaimed mother.

Lucy had drawn a garden in the picture. It was filled with different plants, tree, flowers, butterflies, dragonflies, birds, rabbits, ducks, and doves.

And,e in the middle of it all, wearing a sparkling white gown was Lucy! She even had tow pretty little wings!

In the evening, Lucy's father returned. from office. He heard about her day at school.

"You're on the right track," said father. "First, you had a dream. Then, you drew its elements onto a piece of paper. Now, In order to fulfill your dream, you will have to plan and execute it."

Father pointed to the picture, "We must turn this into reality."

Puzzled, Lucy waited for her father to explain further.

"You may be wondering how," smiled father.

"Well, we will first grow plants. Once, they have grown, birds and butterflies will automatically come," said father.

"What about the ducks, rabbits, doves and the angel with wings?" said Lucy.

Lucy's parents laughed together at her question.

"Don't worry," said father, "Letus first start with what we have."

Lucy with the help of her parents chose an area near their house for the 'Dream Project.' Her mother helped her get sweet smelling flowers like rose, hibiscus, jasmines, bougainvillea, geraniums, for her garden. Her father bought her some marigold seeds.

Lucy started work on her new projects, which she kept a secret. Her parents taught her how to take care of her garden.

After school, she would rush home to spend time with her plants. She stayed till sunset, watering and taking care of them. Slowly the plants grew and started blooming.

In a few months, her garden blossomed. It was full of beautiful, fragrant flowers, Soon, butterflies, dragonflies and birds began visited her garden. As promised, father bought a few ducks, rabbits and doves for Lucy, Mother stitched a gown, out of a user while frock,

She also made tow little wings to complete the angel look.

After a few days, Lucy informed the Headmaster, that she was ready to share her dream with all of them.

Next day, Lucy's schoolmates and teachers came to her house. they were surprised with what they saw.

The garden looked like paradise. Bright and colorful butterflies fluttered around flowers.

Sparrows and other birds, played inside the thick hibiscus and bougainvillea plants, while dragonflies buzzed around.

From the banyan tree, nearby, they could hear parrots sing. Ducks waddled along. Rabbits and doves added to the beauty of the garden. A few squirrels ran around.

In the midst of this, all stood Lucy with her sparkling white dress, little wings and pretty smile made her indeed look like a beautiful angel!

"Dear children, this is how you make your dreams come true," said the Headmaster admiringly.

"Lucy's dream to become an angel is fulfilled. At the same time, her dreams have also created a world where other creatures could live in peace and harmony,: continued the Headmaster.

Everyone clapped for Lucy.

She hugged her parents. "Dreams really do come true!" thought Lucy, Happily.

The Ant and the Grasshopper--Forgiveness, and mercy (Learn English through stories)




This is the next part of The famous story 'The and the Grasshopper'

 In that story, the ant is hard working. She works through the summer collecting food for the winter months, while the grasshopper is playful and lazy who spends his summer days playing the fiddle and dancing in the fields without caring about collecting food for the winter, Many times the ant warns his to collect food for the coming winter season, but  the grasshopper never follow her advice.

When winter comes, there is no food as all the seeds are buried under the snow and there are no plants of insects for the grasshopper to eat and he finds it very difficult to survive.

 The grasshopper goes to the ant's house and begs for food. But the ant laughs and shuts the door on him, as the grasshopper used to make fun of the ant.

 He used to call her boring as she was always working and collecting food during the summer. He is left standing in the snow without food.

 All of us know only this much about the grasshopper.

 But this not the end of the story.

That evening, the poor grasshopper went back to his leaf houses and cried to himself.

"I've no food to eat, it is my fault, I had enough time to collect food and my friend, ant, guided me, but I was too proud to listen to her. I don't know how I'll survive this season!" said the grasshopper.

When the grasshopper opened his eyes, he saw the butterfly flying around there.

the grasshopper asked the butterfly, "How can you be so cheerful during such a cold winter? Where do you find food these days?"

The butterfly replied, "I'm staying in a greenhouse garden made by a man in the city. Whey don't you come with me there, my friend?"

"Will there be snow in the garden?" asked the grasshopper.

"No, there are a lot of indoor plants, even flowering plants and they have covered the roof with a huge green canopy to keep the warmth inside. If you go there you can survive this winter season." said the butterfly

"Oh, thank you very much, dear friend," said the excited grasshopper and went with the butterfly.

The grasshopper spent that whole winter near the tree on the rooftop garden. When the summer season came, the grasshopper went back to his old leaf house in the forest.

This summer, the grasshopper was not the same as last year. In the very beginning, he collected and stored food and barley grains inside his leaf house on the tree. In the leisure time, he sang many songs and played his fiddle.

This year, the grasshopper's songs were meaningful, about the need of collecting food for the winter season. But his friends laughed at him.

When the summer ended, there were heavy rains and the whole forest got flooded.

all anthills went under water and the grasshopper's friend, and somehow clung on to a leaf and floated on the water to find shelter.

Somehow, the ant reached the tree on which the grasshopper lived. Seeing his old friend, the grasshopper rushed to pull the ant out of the water.

The grasshopper took her home and welcomed her in. He gave her fine barley seeds to eat.

The ant's eyes were filled with tears and she said, "Sorry, my dear friend, for my rude behavior last year,"

Grasshopper replied, "No dear friend if you hadn't been harsh to me I would have still been a lazy fellow. You taught me the importance of hard work.

The ant raised her head and said, "But my friend, you have taught me a bigger lesson -- the lesson of forgiveness and mercy. thank you."

after that, the ant and the grasshopper become friends forever.

How to become strong, The apple tree

The apple tree called out to Darky, the leader of the crows, who was flying by, "Hey! Come rest in my shade for a while."

Darkyy looked at him and said, "But your branches don't have any shade your leaves are not green like before, and are drying up. You are becoming paler by the day-- you're growing old!"

 Ha! Ha! Ha!" laughed all the other crows. "Old darky!"

 Instead of feeling bad, the apple tree smiled. "Well, that's the law of nature. Once you shall eventually grow old. You too shall grow old one day," he said.

 "Stop with your nonsense," said Darky. "we're going to the tamarind tree, which is greener, younger and better."

 "All right," said the apple tree, and it watched the crows fly away.

 Laura squirrel lived on the apple tree. She packed all her luggage and started climbing down.

 "Hey, Laura! Where are you going?" asked the apple tree.

 "I am going to live on another tree," said Laura

 "Why?" asked the apple tree.

 "You're drying up fast and one day a storm could uproot you. Even if you survive the storm, the villagers will cut your down. It isn't safe for me to stay here. I'm sorry, but I must leave," said Laura.

 "if you've made up your mind, I won't stop you." said the apple tree, sadly.

 And slowly, everyone left the apple tree. The neighboring trees, too, stopped talking to it.

 The apple tree stood silently. Its leaves slowly dried and fell away.

 One day, two scientists visited the village to conduct a research on trees.

 One scientist looked at the apple tree and said, "Dr. William, this tree is old. It's useless."

 rotting from the top--it has the dieback disease!" said Dr. Graham.

 "Yes, the leaves begin to rot first and fall. Then the branches become empty and the tree starts drying from the top, downwards," said Dr. William. "We must treat this tree immediately."

 The apple tree was somewhat relieved, hoping that it would be cured.

 "But, the parasite has spread too deep. I don't think we can save it," Said Dr. Graham. "let's not waste our time."

 The apple tree was disappointed.

 "But let's try to save the tree," said Dr. William, observing the tree carefully.

 "How?" asked Dr. Graham.

 "We will find the infected parts. Measure them ten centimeters below, and ut them from the healthy parts. Then we will apply copper oxychloride fungicide, at an interval of fifteen days," said Dr. William.

 "Okay, let's start the treatment," smiled Dr. Graham.

 A month and a half later, the apple tree was healthy again. the scientists came back regularly to check on the tree.

 It became thick with leaves and fruits.

 Seeing the healthy mango tree, Darky came back to it with his friends.

 He said, "We're sorry for being rude the other day. Please forgive us."

 "I'm sorry too," said Laura, climbing up the tree.

 The mango tree smiled and said, "It is ok-- you are all welcome back!"

 The apple tree was overjoyed f
or being its healthy self again and the animals, birds realized that sickness and aging was all a part of life. One need not be afraid or make fun of it.
