Summer Vacation in Mango orchard

Summer vacations had begun. This year, the vacation was special for Jacey as she was taking her friends Sara, Nick, and Robin to her village, Lancing.

As soon as their exams were over, Jacey and her friends along with her parents left for Lancing by bus.

Their journey was filled with fun and laughter. they reached Lancing in the evening. Jacey's house was just a short walk from the bus station.

The children ran towards the house with Jacey's parents following behind.

Jacey's grandparents stayed in a house in the village.

Her grandmother served all the guest water and mango shake.

"Wow, Granny! I really like mango shake. Did you make this at home?" asked Jacey.

"Yes!" said Granny. "This mango shake is made from the mangoes that grow in our orchard. I have made some mango pickle for you too."

"You are my favorite!" said Jacey bugging her Granny with a big smile.

"Will the children like to visit the mango orchard tomorrow morning?" asked grandfather.

"Yes definitely, Grandpa. That will be exciting," said Sara. "We have never seen so many mango tres together."

The children woke up early the next day and got ready. they bathed and got ready.

Granny had made breakfast, Jacey, and her friend ate it and drank tea and left for the orchard with Grandpa.

The orchard was a short walk from the home.

"Wow! There are many mango trees here!" exclaimed Nick.

"And look at the mangoes. Some are ripe, and some are not," said Robin.

"Grandpa, how do you pluck the mangoes from the trees?" asked Sara.

Grandpa answered, "We have two men who collect the mangoes. they climb the trees to pluck the mangoes.

I have called them today, as Granny wants to teach you all to make mango shake and mango pickle. We will take green mangoes for the pickle and the ripe mangoes for the mango shake."

"How old is the mango orchard?" asked Jacey. "And how should we take care of the trees?"

Jacey's Grandpa replied, "The mango orchard is about twenty-five years old; it was started by my father using the right quantity of water and fertilizers. But sometimes if the rains arrive early, that damages the mango crop."

While Grandpa explained, the two helpers plucked ripe and unripe mangoes and kept them in separate bags and they left for home.

As soon as they reached the house. Granny asked all of them, "How did you find our mango orchard?"

"Yes Granny!" they replied together.

The next day Granny sat down with the children. She said, "First, we will make mango pickle. Jacey, please wash all the green mangoes,"

After Jacey had done the washing, Granny said, "Cut the mangoes into small squares for the pickle." Granny showed them how t cut the mangoes.

Granny then added a spluttering of mustard, lentil, and other spices to the cut mangoes, followed by salt. She explained, "Saltworks as preservative.e W will put the pickle in a glass bottle and keep it in the sunlight for fifteen days."

Soon, the pickle was done. "Now let's make mango shake. Tha's also easy. We will use ripe mangoes for this Nick, will you wash the ripe mangoes for me, please?" asked Granny.

Nick washed the ripe mangoes and gave them to Granny.

Granny said, "Now we will squeeze the mangoes with our hands. We will collect the mango pulp in a utensil, then mix it a mixer and add sugar in the end."

the children made mango shake following the instructions.

By learning how to make mango pickle and mango shake, the children made good use of their summer holidays that year.

The holidays passed quickly. Soon, Jacey and her friends were all set to go back to London. Granny gave them each a jar of mango pickle and some mangoes. the children were grateful.

Grandpa said, "Do come again, next year."

"Definitely Grandpa!" said the children.

How to Save Papaya Tree?

Isabelle decided to plant a kitchen garden. "I'm going organic," she announced to her parents one morning.

"No packaging cost, no transportation cost, no storage and certainly no chemicals!" Isabelle chirped. "Our teacher told us that eating fruits and vegetable from one's own backyard or terrace is the healthiest option."

While Isabelle's Dad had dismissed this as one of her latest whims, Mom decided to help her.

Together, they decided to grow papayas.

Isabelle's and Mom bought a papaya from the market. On mom's advice, Isabelle cut the fruit in half, scooped out the seeds and dried them on a newspaper. Later, she scattered them in the soil.

"Now so close to one another, Isabelle.

Papaya saplings can grow really big," said mom.

Isabelle's mind began to race. She was reminded of one of her favorite fairytales-Jack and Beanstalk. She imagined that the papaya seeds were magical, and they would grow into giant plants overnight.

I'll have so much fun! I'll be able to touch the clouds and meet a giant who will chase me down the plant," Isabelle thought dreamily.

The next morning, Isabelle rushed to the garden, hoping to find giant papayas fighting for space. But all she found were little mounds of earth.

"Oh well," Isabelle sighed. "So much for magic." She decided to wait patiently and allow her plants to grow at their own pace.

Slowly, the saplings started peeping out of the earth. Isabelle was delighted. But there was still a long way to go before those plants would bear fruits.

Isabelle would often pester her mother. "mom, what if we used some magic potion to make the plants grow?" she asked.

"Well, we do get magic portion in the market. It's called fertilizers. But we don't want to add fertilizers because they contain chemicals.

You do remember what your teacher said about growing food without fertilizers or pesticides?

It won't be natural and organic otherwise," mom reminded her.

"But the teacher said we can use manure. Please mom, can we add some manure? I can't wait for my plants to grow," Isabelle insisted.

"Alright, alright. We'll add manure," mom sighed. But the wondered, "How will the garden smell after the magic portin' is added? Can we bear the stink?"

"Anyway," mom thought. "It's a small price to pay to see Isabell busy."

Isabelle has been lonely ever since they had moved into a new house on the outskirts of the city. She didn't have any friends here and missed the hustle-bustle of her old life. Mom had agreed to the idea of the garden because she thought that it would keep Isabelle occupied.

Every day Isabelle rushed to the garden after school to check in on her plants. Her enthusiasm was infectious. She managed to convince her dad to buy her a book on gardening.

"Oh look, mom! The papaya saplings are growing. Look at the leaves," Isabelle beamed as she pulled out some weeds.

Soon there would be sweet papayas on the table.

One day when Isabelle came back from school, Isabelle saw her mom looking upset.

"What happened, mom? asked Isabelle.

"It was the monkey," said mom. "I was taking a nap, so I didn't notice when they came and went. they pulled out all the sapling.

Everything is ruined. I'm sorry, Isabelle.

A troop of monkeys lived nearby and sometimes they wondered into houses and created havoc everywhere they went opening taps, pulling clotheslines, stealing fruits and damaging plants.

Before her gardening days, Isabelle looked forward to the monkey visits. She liked to see the cute babies hanging from their mother's stomachs. But on that day she was saddened.

"Oh, never mind, mom. It was too much work anyway," Isabelle said. She dashed off to her room and cried until her eyes hurt.

All week, Isabelle went to school with a long face.

Mom tried to console her. "Why don't you forget about this garden business? Sara's daughter, Rebecca has joined a Hollywood dance class. Would you like to join too?

You love dancing, don't you?" But Isabelle was not interested.

Then one day suddenly, Isabelle spotted a broad-leaved sapling in the garden. She then remembered what she had read in her book. "Scatterer a lot of papayas sees. Soon you will have a lot of saplings.

Some will be weaker than others, some stronger. Not all of them will make it as trees. But some will. It is the law of nature."

Sure enough, one sapling had grown into a tree. The plant grew and grew. Isabelle waited for it to grow- she had learned to be patient.

Ten months after she had planted eth seeds, Isabelle smiled as she looked at one beautiful orange green papaya being at the though the leaves.

"Whoopee! Finally!" Isabelle exclaimed, clapping her hands in delight and doing a little jig.

For many, the papaya may be a lowly local fruit, especially in comparison to the king of fruits, the mango, but for Isabelle, it was special.

Teamwork

One morning, Rocky, the rabbit, and his sister, Rache, went out for a walk.

"Where should we go today?" asked Rocky.

"Shall we explore the other side of the lake?" Rache suggested.

Rocky nodded. the two of them started walking towards the lake.

At the lake, they threw stones into the water and watched the ripples.

Suddenly, a net fell over them. they were trapped!

"Today is turning out to be a great day!" said the hunter to his partner. "We caught a monkey, tow turtles, and now tow rabbits."

"Yes! We just need to catch a deer and then we can go back to the city," said the other hunter. "Let's put these two in the pickup truck and then look for a deer?"

The two hunters dumped rocky and Rache in the back of the truck. The monkey and the turtles were also there.

"Won't these animals try to escape from the truck?" asked the first hunter.

"How will they? the monkey is chained to the truck, and the two rabbits are trapped in the net.

As for the turtles, hey can't walk fast enough to lave. It is too dangerous for them to jump from the truck," said his partner, laughing.

The hunters took another net and left in search of a deer. The animals waited until they had left, then went into a huddle.

"What will happen to us now, Rocky? Where will they take us?" Rache asked nervously.

Before Rocky could reply, Martin, the monkey said, "The humans are taking us to the city."

"City? I don't want to go to the city. I'm happy here in the forest," said Rache.

"They are not asking us for our opinion. They're taking us there by force," said Martin sadly.

"We have to try and escape," said Rocky.

Just then, the hunters returned with a deer they had caught.

They loaded the deer in the back of the truck along with the rest of the animals and then got into the front seat.

All the animals were scared and looked for ways to escape.

Rache's eyes fell on a beehive. It was on a tree next to the truck.

"We need to take down that beehive," said Rache.

"Martin, you can climb trees. Please help us," requested Rocky.

"Take down that beehive?! No way! the bees will sting me," said Martin.

the other animals tried to convince Martin, but he refused.

So, Rocky and Rache decided to do it.

"Rocky, if I climb on your shoulders, I will be able to reach the beehive," said Rache.

"You are right. but the quick! this may be our only chance to escape," said Rocky.

Rocky lifted Rache on his shoulders. She managed to pull the beehive away from the branch with her bear paws.

Rocky and Rache were stung by many bees but they did not give up.

The bees were angry that their beehive had been broken. So they swarmed the truck.

Rache said, "Now, all of you start making a lot of noise so that the humans open this window at the back to see what is happening."

The others did as told. When the hunters opened the window, Rocky threw the beehive through it. The beehive broke and more angry bees attacked them.

The hunters jumped out of the truck and ran to save themselves from the bees.

"Hurry! The humans have run away. We don't have to go to the city!" cheered Tony, and Todd, the turtles.

"But we still have one problem," said Dylan, the deer, gesturing to the nets.

"Hold on. We'll try cutting the nets with our teeth," said Tony Todd, and began biting through the net.

Martin too joined them in biting through the nets. Martin suffered cuts to his lips, but that did not stop him. In the end, the tear work paid off. Rocky, Rache, and Dylan were free.

"What about me? I'm still chained," said Martin.

"Don't worry. I'll use a stone to break this chain," said Dylan and left the pickup truck.

After a while, she came back with a stone and used it to break the chain.

Rocky, Rache, Martin, and Dylan got off the truck and helped the turtles get off.

Martin, Dylan and the turtles thanked Rocky and Rache. "Thank you. It's because of you quick thinking that we were able to escape from the hunters," they said.

"It was a team effort. If you had not cut through the net, then we would have been trapped in the truck itself," said Rocky and Rache.

the animals then bid each other goodbye and returned to their homes happily.

How to use technology to rescue someone

Early one morning, Jacob was woken up by a commotion outside his house. He looked out of the window and saw a small crowd gathered near his neighbor Mr. Brown.

Jacob went to the living room and asked his mom about it.

Mr. Brown and his family had gone to Manchester last week. Unfortunately, their son, Liam went missing there.

They looked for him for four days but he has still not been found. Mr. Brown is in Manchester and is looking out for Liam. Mrs. Brown has returned in case somebody calls home with some information about him," explained his mom.

"have they informed the police about it?" asked Jacob.

"Yes The police are looking for him but they haven't got any leads as yet.

Manchester is a crowded city. Liam could be anywhere," said his mother, worries for the boy.

Six-years-old Liam was Jacob's friend. He was a nice guy and well liked by everyone in the neighborhood

Even as he went through his daily routine, Jacob continued to worry about Liam.

He ate breakfast glumly and then left for school.

At school, Jacob's friends noticed him looking sad. When they asked him what had happened. Jacob told them about Liam.

They tried consoling him but his mood remained unchanged.

When he returned home that evening, Jacob learned that there was still no news about Liam.

Later that evening, when Jacob's father returned from work, Jacob's mother said, "Poor Mrs. Brown! she has been crying all day. I wish we could help."

"There's nothing much we can do," said Jacob's father. "The police and Mr. Brown are trying their best to find Liam."

When his father went to freshen up, Jacob took his phone and started playing with it.

Suddenly, an idea occurred to him.

"We can help find Liam!" exclaimed Jacob.

His parents were puzzled.

"How can we do that?" asked his mother.

"Using technology," said Jacob, smiling, "we can share Liam's photos and details on all social media like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and WhatsApp.

We can request people to forward it to everyone on their list,

thus forming a chain. this way, we'll a better chance of finding him," said Jacob.

"This sounds like a good idea but the police have already broadcast his photo on television," said his father.

"But dad, these days people check their phone more frequently than they watch TV," said Jacob.

Jacob's parents were convinced. They went to Mrs. Brown and told her about the idea. She agreed to give it a try.

She gave them a photo of Liam, which Jacob shard on all the apps from his father's phone. Along with the photo, Jacob included some basic information about Liam. Jacob included the contact details and a request to forward the message to others.

after two days, someone messaged Jacob's father on Facebook informing him that a boy resembling Liam was seen at an Old age home in Manchester.

The boy had been lost on the beach and could not tell about his parents or his hotel.

Immediately, Jacob's father informed Mr. Brown and then left for Manchester to helm him. On reaching, they found Liam in the Old age home.

As soon as he saw his father, Liam ran to him. Mr. Brown was elated to finally have found his son.

While Liam spoke to his mother over the phone, his father called up the person who had given the information about Liam and thanked him.

Mr. Brown then spoke to Jacob over the phone "Thanks to your idea we were able to find Liam," he said gratefully.

Jacob was proud as he had used technology in the right way!

The cursed Well

The residents of Vatican Village were peace-loving and friendly. They drew water from the same well. The well's water was special as it was cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

This well had a strange feature. Just above the water level, there was a door set in the wall of the well. Villagers said the door might conceal a tunnel, but no one cared to try and open the door.

Noah, Jacob, William, James, Sophia, Emma, and Isabella were the children who lived in the village. William was the smartest among them.

One night, Sophia went into the kitchen to get a glass of water. She realized that they had run out of drinking water.

She went to her father and said, "Dad I'm thirsty! Please get me some water from the well."

At once, Sophia's father left for the well. When he bent down to draw water from the well, he suddenly started screaming, "My eyes are burning! Help me!"

The villagers quickly rushed to the well and took Sophia's father to the doctor. the doctor examined Sophia's dad and said, "He seems to have lost his vision."

Everyone was taken aback by this. they asked Sophia's father to explain what had happened.

"I don't know," Sophia's Father said. "As soon as I bent down to draw water from the well, my eyes started burning."

After taking Sophia's father back, everyone decided to return home and get some rest.

the next day, the children were sitting under a tree and discussing the events of the previous night.

Noah saw a villager running past them.

Noah stopped him and asked, "What happened, Sir? Why are you running?"

I'm going to call the doctor. A few people in the village have lost their voices after drinking the well's water. Something is terribly wrong." he said, his voice shaking.

The children returned home to share the information with their families.

No one in the village could understand home the well's water had suddenly turned poisonous. the villagers started calling it 'the cursed Well."

The villages went to the village council and asked it to help them.

So the Member of council decided to find out. He told everyone that until then, no one was allowed to drink the water from the well. they decided to get water from the nearby river.

That night, William sat at his window, staring at the well and thinking about what had happened. Suddenly, he noticed a strange light coming from the well.

A surprised William decided to look, On his way, he heard an odd sound and quickly hid behind a house. From there, he peeped to see what was happening near the well.

A few men climbed out of the well. They went towards the forest. William was shocked and decided to go after them.

William was puzzled when he saw the strangers plucking fruits from the trees.

When the strangers returned to the well, William followed them silently.

The strangers climbed down the steps and reached the door set in the well. they walked through the door. William followed them inside.

William hid in a corner, listening to their conversation. He realized that the strangers were a gang of thieves who were using the well as their secret hideout.

They also spoke of having hidden listening devices around the village.

"I should get out of here before I'm caught," thought William. He silently went home by the same door.

The next morning, he told his friends what he had seen.

"We should inform the Council at once," said Jacob, anxiously.

"No, we can't do that. they have installed listening devices around the village.

They'll easily find out about a discussion with the village head. It is up to us to do something. We must capture and bring them in front of the Council.

I think we should do this tonight," said William

"How can we do that?" asked Isabella.

William explained his plan. Everyone agreed to meet at a pre-decided spot that night.

"Did you get everything I asked you to?" whispered William, late that night.

"Yes, we did," they said.

"Great! Now we wait for them to come out of the well."

the kids hid behind a bush and waited for the thieves.

After a while, the thieves came out of the well and went into the forest.

William and his friends quickly went inside the well.

When the thieves returned to the room inside the well, they started screaming.

William had sprinkled chili powder on them. Sophia and Isabella poured oil at their feet. they slipped and fell down. Before they could get up, Noah, Jacob, and James threw a net over them.

The children quickly tired them with ropes and took them to the Council. The Head of Council was astonished to see them.

When the men were questioned, one of them said, "We are gold smugglers. One day, our team member was digging up a wall at our previous hideout. He happened to discover a tunnel that connected the room to this well.

We thought that someone could discover the tunnel and find our hideout. So, we decided to poison the well. that way, we could finish sealing the tunnel without interruption.

The poison, when consumed, would make a person speechless for thirty days."

"But my dad didn't drink the water, and yet he lost his vision," said Sophia, angrily.

"That's because when your dad came to draw water from the well, we were just climbing out.

So we sprayed him with a chemical, and he lost his vision. But your dad, too, shall regain his vision in thirty days," said the smuggler.

"But whey did you go out into the forest every day?" asked Noah.

"To collect food," said another smuggler.

The Head of the Council took the smugglers to the police station, where they were put in custody.

The Head of Council praised the children for their bravery. The curse on the well was finally broken.
